40 under 40- Alternative Investment Professionals in India 2023
Equalifi’s “40 Under 40- Alternative Investment Professionals in India” campaign now in its sixth year is the most prestigious awards campaign for the alternative investments industry. This initiative has been designed to identify the best and the brightest minds in the Indian alternative investments sector.
This is a prestigious awards program that identifies outstanding young executives, professionals and entrepreneurs in the business, visionaries, and innovators changing the way things are done. They are inspiring others and already giving back to their communities .
It is the most popular and prestigious awards for the Indian alternative investments industry across different verticals like fund management, advisory, operations, compliance, consulting, technology, marketing, product design and fund raising.
From the 4th edition of this campaign held in 2021, we have changed the format of this prestigious campaign to ensure we identify only the best alternative investment professionals under the age of 40 without any compulsion to choose 40 winners every time. In 2021 the Jury had selected 26 winners from 150+ nominees and in 2022 a total 21 winners were selected from 110+ nominees.
Overall the first 5 editions of the “40 under 40” campaign have been a huge success and with 166 Achievers from the first 5 years, Equalifi’s 40 under 40 community is clearly the most unique and eclectic community of alternative investment leaders across the world.
About the 2023 Campaign:
The nominees should exhibit identifiable accomplishment at a young age as well as promising future prospects. He / she should also be under the age of 40 as on 31st December 2022.
We are looking for the best and brightest of the Indian Alternative Investments community under the age of 40. If you know someone who is well-rounded and contributes to their industry and community, we would like you to introduce us.
NOMINATIONS PROCESS
The nomination process is inclusive and ensures fair treatment of
every nominee.
One can nominate himself/herself, or be nominated by another individual or company.
Qualifications: The only requirement when nominating someone is that they must be under 40 years of age as of December 31, 2022, and must reside in India.
EVALUATION PROCESS
The evaluation process is crafted to guarantee that nominees are
assessed based on their achievements, reputation, leadership skills,
and ambition to further succeed in business.
– Accomplishment (Success in profession)
– Contribution (Promotion of the profession, financial literacy,
pro-bono work, etc.)
– Leadership (Within a company, The industry, etc.)
– Promise (Passion, Enthusiasm, Ideas, etc.)
SELECTION CRITERIA
Nominees are evaluated according to the following criteria:
– Career progress, past job positions, and business accomplishments
– Level of management of nominee’s position within the organizational
structure
– Number of personal and/or corporate local, national, regional or
international awards and other recognition
– Inspiring personal story on the road to success
– Level of innovation, creativity, and other intrapreneurial skills in
conducting business practices
– Personal image/reputation within the business community
FINAL DECISION
Each nomination will be evaluated independently. After a careful
review, the Jury will shortlist and their decision is final.

Chandresh Nigam
MD & CEO Axis Asset ManagementA Mechanical Engineer from IIT Delhi and PGDM from IIM Calcutta who currently helms Axis Asset Management Company Ltd.
He joined the company in 2009, as Head of Equity, was part of the core management team since inception and has conceptualized the company’s fund management philosophy and fund processes that are key to its success today. In 2010, he was promoted as Head Investments and in 2013 as MD & CEO of the company.
He has worked with notable organizations like TCG Advisory Services, ICICI Prudential AMC & Zurich India AMC in the past.
Padmaja Ruparel

Padmaja Ruparel is nationally recognized as a key player in the Indian entrepreneurial ecosystem and has helped co found many of the relevant institutions, besides being an active Angel investor herself. Her operating experience spans large corporates, M&A, and startups/early stage companies. She has been awarded as one of the “30 Most Powerful Women in India” by Business Today in “Most Powerful Women in Indian Business Awards 2017 ”
Shagoofa Rashid Khan
Group General Counsel & Head Corporate Affairs National Investment and Infrastructure Fund (NIIF)Shagoofa has over two decades of experience in private equity, acquisitions, joint ventures and strategic initiatives, corporate and commercial laws, compliance and ethics advisory, audit and finance roles. In her career span of over 23 years, she was an in-house counsel for 10 years with leading Indian corporate houses. At NIIF, she is the Group General Counsel and Head of Corporate Affairs and is based out of the Mumbai office.
Prior to joining NIIF, Shagoofa was a Partner with Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas (CAM). At CAM, she headed the Investments Funds practice and specialised in Private Equity investment advisory for infrastructure, real estate, and financial services sectors. She has advised global and domestic fund houses in structuring and setting up of their cross border as well as domestic funds, including combination structures and fund of funds. She has advised large institutional investors (including pension funds and sovereign funds) on their strategic and platform investments in India. She has also played an active role on the policy advocacy front by being part of committees constituted by the regulators, providing support to industry associations such as IVCA and APREA and assisting clients on representations to Government ministries and regulatory bodies.
Shiv Sehgal
President & Head Nuvama Capital MarketsShiv Sehgal is President and Co-Head of the Institutional Clients Group, Edelweiss Global Investment Advisors. In this role, Shiv provides leadership to one of India’s largest equity franchises and is responsible for the Capital Market businesses which includes Institutional Equities (covering sales, research and trading) and Asset Services.
Shiv has worked in the investment management and financial services industry for close to two decades, the majority of which has been in emerging market funds in the pan-Asia markets. Prior to his current role, Shiv led the Goldman Sachs Institutional Sales Trading, Equity Capital Markets business in India, responsible for the firm's franchise relationships. Shiv was also appointed to the Goldman Sachs India board to oversee day to day operations and provide executive leadership on various firm committees. Before joining Goldman Sachs, India, & NBS; Shiv was CEO of Artha Capital, Singapore.
Shiv has extensive experience of working in long-short emerging market hedge funds in Sydney and Singapore. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst from the CFA Institute, USA and holds a Masters in Banking and Finance from Griffith University, Brisbane.
Tushar Sachade
Partner- Price Waterhouse & Co LLPTushar Sachade is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountant of India.
He is a Partner at Price Waterhouse & Co LLP and is based out of Mumbai. He has over 26 years of experience in the field of Financial Services.
He has worked with a large number of clients in the Financial Services space and specializes in entry strategies and fund structuring of global, institutional and startup funds from the tax and regulatory perspective. In addition, he has been closely involved in several high-profile private equity transactions on tax and regulatory structuring, including deal structuring.
Tushar has also worked with various industry bodies. He has helped IVCA and FICCI and advised them on making representations on several industry issues. He has also been interacting regularly with regulators, including SEBI, on REITs-related legislation and AIF funds. He has also worked with GIFT and IFSC Authority to help frame regulatory and tax framework for IFSC. He has been part of several committee such as VCC Committee, Investments Fund Committee and Longevity Finance Committee established by IFSC Authority.
